The Health Care Financing Administration is issuing
instructions to its Medicare
intermediaries that extends, through March 31, 2001, the deadline
for converting to version 6.0 of the UB-92. HCFA has determined that, in
order to give providers, as well as coordination of benefits trading
partners, additional time to test the version 6.0, the intermediaries
should continue to accept version 5.0 until April 1. However,
providers are reminded that version 6.0 remains the only version that
fully supports the new functionality for line item expansion, which is
important for the prospective payment systems now used for outpatient and
home health claims.
