Building on its popular 1999 programs, the nonprofit Rx2000 Institute has scheduled its next Special Interest Group meeting titled, Healthcare Technology, Regulations and the New Millennium for April 25th - 26th in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This one and a half-day meeting will offer:

- an in-depth analysis of the proposed HIPAA regulatory structure presented by senior officials from the Department of Health and Human Services and the Health Care Financing Administration

- a series of extremely timely presentations about how evolving Internet technology and the world wide web will affect the American healthcare system. Presenters will include key executives from several of the largest healthcare Internet companies in the nation.

-HIPAA and eHealth tutorials (if there is sufficient interest)

HIPAA and eHealth

The Institute is committed to applying its experience to the challenges of HIPAA and eHealth. We expect Institute SIG Meetings will become "healthcare learning laboratories" for these critical issues. We are committed to this because we understand how difficult it is for organizations to stay current with government regulations and electronic technology. We are dedicated to bridging healthcare's "digital divide."

The April Meeting will consist of an introduction to HIPAA and eHealth during the afternoon of the 25th followed by a reception for participants in the evening. April 26th will be a full day of presentations and round table discussions about HIPAA and eHealth. Senior staff from HHS and HCFA will offer in-depth discussion about HIPAA. HIPAA topics will include:

- Which of the HIPAA regulations will have the most impact on healthcare?

- What are the HIPAA Security and Electronic Signature standards?

- Who must comply?

- Do security requirements apply only to the transactions adopted under HIPAA?

- How will smaller providers be affected?

- What are the required timelines for achieving compliance with HIPAA regulations?

- What benefits do the new HIPAA regulations provide to healthcare organizations?

- What is the tentative schedule for publication of HIPAA Administrative Simplification Regulations?

Senior corporate eHealth executives will discuss healthcare delivery and emerging eHealth technologies. eHealth topics will include:

- What is eHealth?
- Why is eHealth so important to healthcare?

- How does eHealth affect healthcare?

- How is healthcare responding to these new technologies?

- What areas of eHealth are particularly relevant today?

Space is limited so we encourage you to register early. In keeping with our mission, fees for this one and a half day SIG meeting are very modest at $95 for Institute Members and $249 for others. This fee includes the introduction session on Tuesday afternoon the 25th, a reception on Tuesday evening, and a full day session including lunch on Wednesday the 26th.
